SafeBoda Ranks Number One in Helmet Use Across Uganda, New Research Confirms

In a new report released by Lubyanza Research Group, SafeBoda has once again proven why it remains Uganda’s leading ride-hailing platform, this time, for championing road safety through consistent helmet use among riders and passengers.

The report, conducted in partnership with the Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine (AAAM), revealed striking differences in safety gear usage between app-based riders and off-app boda boda riders. According to the findings, while only 3% of off-app riders carry an extra passenger helmet, an impressive 25% of app-based riders do, and SafeBoda riders lead this category by far.

Setting the Standard for Safety

From its inception, SafeBoda has distinguished itself through its strong safety culture, making helmets a defining feature of its brand identity. Unlike the majority of informal boda operations, every SafeBoda rider is required to carry two helmets, one for the driver and another for the passenger.

This long-standing safety commitment continues to yield results. The report notes that even riders who operate on multiple platforms retain the SafeBoda safety mindset, ensuring that helmet use becomes second nature.

The #YambalaHelmetYo Influence

SafeBoda’s impact extends beyond policy, it’s cultural. The platform’s #YambalaHelmetYo campaign, a creative and consistent road safety initiative, has influenced thousands of riders and passengers to embrace helmet use as a lifestyle rather than a rule.

Within the SafeBoda App, passengers now receive a pop-up prompt asking whether their rider provided a second helmet, an innovative feature reinforcing SafeBoda’s commitment to shared responsibility and road safety.

Through social media engagement, community sensitization, and collaborations with several stakeholders, SafeBoda has redefined what responsible boda riding looks like.

A Model for Safer Urban Mobility

Tom Courtright, a renowned E-Mobility and Boda Boda Transport Researcher and Consultant, published the findings on his official LinkedIn page on Monday, October 6, 2025, highlighting SafeBoda’s proactive approach to safety and its positive ripple effect across Uganda’s growing ride-hailing ecosystem.

Beyond Helmets, Building a Safety-First Culture

For SafeBoda, safety goes beyond compliance, it’s part of the company’s DNA. Through continuous training, rider sensitization, and advocacy for stronger transport regulations and harmonized working environment, SafeBoda is shaping a future where safety and professionalism define urban transport in Africa.

As Uganda continues to battle alarming road safety statistics, SafeBoda’s leadership in road safety demonstrates that innovation, responsibility, and impact can coexist, proving once again that the orange brand is not just moving people, but moving the nation toward safer roads.
